Anna Smith,
Counseling Psychology PhD Student
Background:
Anna grew up in a small town outside of Nashville, TN. There, she learned to love community, culture, and values-based living. She moved to Utah to pursue higher education at Brigham Young University and recently moved to Spanish Fork with her husband of six years and their son. Anna loves hearing people's stories, understanding their worldview, and authentically connecting with those around her. She enjoys a variety of outdoor activities (mountain biking, snowboarding, rock climbing, etc.) but mostly she enjoys watching her son experience the world for the first time.
Education and Work Experience:
Anna graduated with a B.S. in Exercise Science and is currently pursuing a PhD in Counseling Psychology, both from Brigham Young University. She has experience doing therapy in a college counseling center and a private practice as well as completing neuropsychological assessments for children and adults.
Therapy Approach:
Anna's approach to therapy is collaborative, nonjudgmental, and compassionate. Anna believes that lasting change occurs when people understand themselves internally, experience support and repair in relationships, and make sense of their lives within larger cultural systems. Anna integrates evidence-based treatment from internal family systems therapy, compassion focused therapy, attachment theory, and feminist theory to address both internal conflict and systemic influences. She strives for a genuine connection with her clients to help them experience safety and progress toward growth in their goals.
