Carson Reber,
Counseling Psychology PhD Student
Background:
I am a doctoral student in the Counseling Psychology PhD program at Brigham Young University. I grew up close to Atlanta, Georgia and have lived in Utah for the past 5 years. I enjoy watching films, playing piano, and cooking all kinds of foods.
Education and Work Experience:
I earned a B.S. in psychology from Brigham Young University before beginning my doctoral program. During a gap year, I worked at an autism clinic where I got to know and spend time with teenagers and adults who have ASD. I have also worked in a young adult residential treatment center and have conducted ADHD assessments in the BYU accessibility center.
Therapy Approach:
My therapy approach is grounded in a relational-existential perspective, meaning I focus a lot on the here-and-now of therapy and the various relationships that are at play in an individual's life. I also integrate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) depending on the client's needs and preferences.
