David Skiles,
CMHC
Background:
David grew up in Kirkland, Washington. He has been married since 2012 and has three children. He enjoys spending time with family, reading, playing video-games and board games, and outdoor recreational activities.
Education and Work Experience:
David has been working as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor in the State of Utah since 2019, receiving full licensure in 2021. He received a Bachelor's in Neuroscience from Brigham Young University and a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Capella University. He was formally trained in EMDR in 2021. He worked in an outpatient substance use treatment program addressing a wide variety of co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders from 2019 to 2025, providing individual and group therapy.
Therapy Approach:
David has always wanted to help people, and finds great satisfaction in helping others find greater relief, self-compassion, and joy in their life. He believes that each person needs to experience a warm, accepting, and non-judgmental relationship that can help unlock new perspectives and their own capacity for healing. His overall approach is founded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which focuses on increasing psychological flexibility through willingness to experience life as it is, self-compassion, and a commitment to personal values. Within that framework he utilizes an integration of evidenced-based therapies (ACT, CBT, EMDR, MI) tailored to individual needs, preferences, and goals.
