Deanna Gourley,
MSW Student
Background:
Deanna grew up in Western New York. She came to Utah for school and decided to make Utah her home. She is a single mother to five children: two with special needs. Her daughter also has several severe medical conditions— this has helped Deanna understand the stress and toll it takes on families to raise medically fragile children and the difficulty it is to juggle the needs of each family member. Deanna loves to spend time with her children and friends playing games, being outdoors, and enjoying each other's company.
Education and Work Experience:
Deanna is pursuing a masters in social work at Capella University. She received her undergraduate degree at Brigham Young University in Marriage and Family Development. Deanna has experience working with school-aged children and families with special needs, whether that is medical issues or disabilities.
Therapy Approach:
Deanna practices a person-in-environment, client-centered approach. This means that the client is in control and together they develop a treatment plan that is individualized to the client’s needs and strengths. Deciding to attend therapy is a courageous step forward in seeking support and assistance and as such trust is crucial to the therapeutic relationship. Deanna strives to create an environment of trust, authenticity, and safety.
