Jemma Carter,
CMHC Student
Background:
Jemma was born and raised in Lamoille, Nevada. She graduated High School from Spring Creek High School in 2010. She received a full ride academic scholarship to Boise State University. She had no idea what she wanted to do, so after finishing her generals she traveled around the Western United States working many different jobs, mostly bartending and waitressing. She has also worked as Veterninary Technician, Substitute Teaching, and did billing for Red Rock Eye Clinic in Panguitch. She finally found a career she loved when she was substitute teaching, which is when she went back to school at Southern Utah University to be a licensed educator in Utah. Jemma has been teaching for five years and loves it. She is a mother of two wild boys and married to the love of her life. The family has three dogs, one insane cat, and a bearded dragon. The old grumpy dog named Tig from Sons of Anarchy is the only that is hers. Jemma loves to read, kayak, shoot archery, trap shooting, and anything that involves the outdoors with her family. She has a passion for helping others in any stage of life and hopes that together we can build a quality life.
Education and Work Experience:
Jemma received a full ride to Boise State University where she completed her Generals. She went back to school to complete her Bachelor's Degree in Social Science Education at Southern Utah University. Jemma is currently obtaining her Master's Degree from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions for Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
Therapy Approach:
Jemma's therapy approach is about trust and building a relationship that is not only safe but comfortable. There is no place for judgement and only empathy. Her approach also includes a systems perspective, where she wants to understand the client as a whole and not just one mentioned problem. Jemma believes therapy works best when the client and her work together to define goals that are meaningful and realistic. She sees her role not as an expert at fixing a problem, but as a parter walking alongside her clients. Each client's background, culture, and identity shape their experience, and she strives to remain open, curious, and responsive to these influences. Jemma strives to help clients not only process challenges, but also recognize their strengths, resilience, and inner wisdom. Her goal is to help people reconnect with their own capacity for healing and growth.
