Jenna Drwal,
PsyD Graduate Student

Background:

I was born and raised in the Midwest, where I spent my childhood showing horses, riding motorcycles, and spending time with my family. At 14, I moved to Arizona. I fell in love with the West and knew I would never want to leave. In 2023, I moved to Utah to pursue a doctorate in clinical psychology at Southern Utah University, and I've come to truly love this state.

Personally, I'm a dog mom, an avid outdoor enthusiast, a musician, a cook, a business owner, and a gearhead who thrives on an active lifestyle. I have a deep passion for existentialism - grappling with the rawness, brevity, and beauty of life fascinates me. Professionally, I'm a graduate student and clinician, deeply passionate about this field of study and the nature of human connectedness.

Education and Work Experience:

I earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychological Sciences and Nutrition Sciences from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. During my undergraduate studies, I interned at a shelter supporting survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. This experience solidified my passion for trauma work, and upon completing my internship, I was hired as a lead advocate, providing direct support and crisis intervention to survivors.

Driven to expand my clinical expertise, I pursued a doctorate in clinical psychology at Southern Utah University. Over the past year, I have gained hands-on experience at SUU's COmmunity Counseling Assessment Clinic, where I provide therapy and psychological assessments for children and adolescents.

My professional journey is guided by a strong commitment to trauma-informed care and a dedication to supporting individuals in their healing and resilience. I am beyon excited to continue my journey with Sandstone.

Therapy Approach:

I approach therapy through a client-centered lens, believing that empathy, genuineness, and unconditional positive regard are the foundation of a strong therapeutic relationship. My goal is to create a space where clients feel truly seen, understood, and supported in their growth. I take a holistic perspective, recognizing the complexity of each individual and the unique experiences that shape them.
At the core of my work is a deep appreciation for the depth and impermanence of life—an understanding that our time is limited, yet profoundly meaningful. This existential perspective fuels my passion for helping clients navigate life’s challenges with authenticity, resilience, and purpose. While my foundation is client- centered, I also integrate evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Parent Management Training, to ensure effective, individualized care.
