Maureen Fiefia,
CMHC Student

Background:

Maureen was born in North Carolina and grew up in eastern Pennsylvania before settling in the beautiful Cache Valley, Utah. Throughout her life, she has been fueled by a deep love of adventure and curiosity to learn new things (which can sometimes get her in trouble). Sports have always played a significant role in Maureen's life, and she was fortunate to play collegiate soccer at Utah State University. Maureen enjoys exploring new destinations, searching for shark teeth, and being near any body of water. She and her husband of 22 years are proud parents to four children, and raising them together has brought her a sense of fulfillment and plenty of excietement. The greatest joy in Maureen's life comes from the time she spends with her family.

Education and Work Experience:

Maureen graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, a minor in Physical Education, and an ESL (English as a Second Language) endorsement. Throughout her career, she has worked in various roles across the public school system, with over twelve years of experience in elementary, middle, and high school settings. Her extensive background includes teaching a range of grades and ESL instruction here in Cache Valley. In addition to her teaching roles, Maureen has worked as a High School Counselor, where she provided guidance and support to students in both academic and personal areas. Her experience also extends to the mental health field within public schools, where she has supported students from young children through adolescents, helping them navigate challenges and promoting emotional well-being. Maureen is passionate about working with people from diverse backgrounds and has been fortunate to work with a wide range of individuals across all ages.

As a certified coach, Maureen has coached boys' and girls' soccer teams, fostering teamwork, discipline, and leadership skills in young athletes. Currently, Maureen is a Clinical Mental Health graduate intern at Rocky Mountain University, furthering her education and training in the mental health field.

Therapy Approach:

Maureen values warmth, acceptance, and patience, and strives to create a space where clients can feel genuinely seen and heard. She believes therapy is most effective when it’s a collaborative process. At times, it may involve exploring difficult thoughts and feelings, while at other times it may be focused on creating specific plans to change unhelpful patterns. Maureen uses an integrated therapy approach, tailoring each session to meet the unique needs and goals of individuals. By fostering honest, open conversations, she believes healing occurs through understanding and connection. In her practice, Maureen emphasizes a strength-based approach, helping clients recognize their own resilience and resources. She also incorporates hope theory practices, supporting individuals in envisioning a positive future and developing pathways to reach their goals.
