Nathan Rhees,
PhD Student

Background:

Nate has never actually had a long walk on the beach, so he doesn’t really know if he likes them or not. He can say that walking in Utah’s outdoors is pretty good though, and he sometimes even gets to bring a fishing pole. Nate grew up in a handful of states in the western US. His favorite people are his family, including his wife and three kids. He was thinking about his lack of hobbies one time, and realized that since he will literally need to eat for the rest of his life, he might as well learn to cook. He’s pretty okay at it now.

Education and Work Experience:

Nate received a bachelor’s degree in psychology and is in the process of completing his PhD in counseling psychology, both from BYU. He brings 5 years of clinical training and experience providing therapy, and has worked in private practice and university counseling center settings. Nate has experience providing psychotherapy and psychological assessment services for a range of mental health concerns..

Therapy Approach:

Nate strives to honor and appreciate each person’s situation from a place of compassion. He prioritizes building an atmosphere of warmth and understanding, while utilizing empirically supported treatments (including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Compassion Focused Therapy) to help clients improve their wellbeing and move towards their values. Nate also strives to honor how our individual and community experiences, identities, cultural backgrounds, etc. play a role in who we are and in our health. He tries to establish a collaborative relationship with clients to build upon and improve their mental health.
