Samantha Guillory,
LCSW
Background:
I grew up in Nephi with three sisters and one brother. I played various sports growing up but especially loved softball and volleyball. I sustained a cervical spinal cord injury when I was a teenager where I learned mental barriers are more difficult than the physical ones which lead me to declaring my major in psychology. I am an avid sports fan and true crime lover. If I'm not watching a game, you can catch me outside sitting in the sun with a good book.
Education and Work Experience:
I received my bachelor's in psychology from Utah State University and went on to get my Master of Social Work from the University of Utah. I worked in an IOP treatment center that specialized in treating OCD and Anxiety Disorders. I most recently worked in a middle school as a school therapist. I also have experience working with the aging population and with the forensic population working toward competency restoration.
Therapy Approach:
I have a compassion and acceptance-based approach. I think the therapeutic relationship is essential to treatment progress as well as empowering the client to utilize their own strengths to make positive changes. I use a variety of evidence-based approaches depending on the diagnosis but especially love dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and incorporating exposure and response prevention (ERP) with OCD and
anxiety disorders.
