Background:

Tanner is a master’s level social work intern who was born and raised in San Diego, California. He moved to Utah to attend Utah Valley University and has lived in Utah Valley since 2019. He is the youngest of five children, and a current husband and beloved dog dad. Tanner enjoys spending time with family and friends when he can. In his spare time Tanner has enjoyed learning to snowboard, creative writing, and board games with friends.

Education and Work Experience:

Tanner Moffat started his collegiate career at BYU-Idaho before transferring to Utah Valley University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology. Tanner is currently in the MSW program at Utah Valley University. He has spent the majority of his time in Utah working in both residential, and wilderness therapy programs. He first moved to Utah to work at Discovery Academy before he moved over to Telos Academy where he has worked extensively with adolescents in residential treatment both as a mentor and lead supervisor. He spent a summer working at RedCliff Ascent, a wilderness therapy program for adolescents as a field guide. Recently, Tanner has been an intern therapist at Ardú Recovery Center, a rehabilitation center for those who struggle with substance abuse disorder and other addictions.

Therapy Approach:

Tanner is very passionate about helping individuals reach their full potential as they achieve their dreams. Tanner believes that the therapist client relationship is the most important aspect of any therapeutic process. He understands the stress that anxiety, depression, OCD, and addiction, among many other factors can have on the everyday ability to function. By using several different approaches such as Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and client-centered approaches, Tanner aims to provide relief and understanding from the burdens of everyday life, mental health, and trauma.
