Tyell Gustavson,
Counseling Psychology Student

Background:

I am a doctoral student in the Counseling Psychology PhD program at BYU. I was raised in Utah and have an African American and Latin background. I am passionate about life and love to learn about people's stories. During the little free time I have, I love to make music, play sports, and be with my loved ones.

Education and Work Experience:

After graduating from Mountain View High School (Go Bruins!), I completed my bachelor's degree in psychology and business at Utah State University. While there, I played college soccer and spent a semester studying in Argentina. I am currently in the Ph.D program for counseling psychology at BYU. While there, I have received training in a wide range of therapeutic techniques and assessment practices. I have also conducted ADHD assessments for one year.

Therapy Approach:

I believe that creating and maintaining strong relationships with ourselves and others and being holistically healthy are the keys to mental health. To accomplish these goals, I emphasize values-based living. I do this through Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
