Wesley Beck,
PsyD Student

Background:

Wesley was raised in Cedar City, UT and quickly fell in love with the sandstone that is particularly unique to this area. Wesley is an avid rock climber, backpacker, and canyoneer who spends most weekends on the sheer walls of Zion National Park; embracing the challenge and beauty of the landscape. After growing up in a rural town and since living in a variety of rural places, Wesley has a strong desire to help smaller communities. Wesley recognizes the cultural difficulties of living in southern Utah (e.g., religiously, racially, politically) and at the same time has grown to have a deep appreciation for the land and culture of the surrounding area. He hopes to help create a safe and non-judgmental space for individuals experiencing a variety of unique mental health and developmental challenges. Wesley finds joy in building connections with others and supporting them in improving their lives.

Education and Work Experience:

Wesley graduated with his B.A. in Psychology and is currently a member of the inaugural cohort of Clinical Psychology Doctoral (PsyD) students at Southern Utah University. Within the Doctorate of Clinical Psychology program, Wesley has received training in a variety of disciplines and skill sets. He has been at the SUU Community Counseling and Assessment Clinic for two years, working with individuals of all ages. Over the past year, he has worked at the Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) on the SUU campus, serving college students and the emerging adult population. He thoroughly enjoys serving the community of Cedar City.

Therapy Approach:

Wesley views each person as a unique individual with distinct challenges and needs. He is trained as a generalist and works with individuals with a wide variety of presenting concerns, identities, and backgrounds. Wesley prioritizes building an atmosphere of warmth and understanding while utilizing empirically supported treatments (including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)) to help clients improve their well-being and move toward their values. Wesley is committed to helping clients thrive, whether they’re navigating life’s biggest challenges or just trying to find balance. Sometimes, we all need a little direction, a lot of support, and maybe some humor along the way.
