Josh Smith,
LSCW
Background:
Josh was born and raised in Provo but has been glad to call Payson home for the last five years. He is passionate about cooking and barbeque and is happiest though when gathered with family and friends and enjoying good food. Josh and his wife Elena have two children and love spending time together as a family along with their two dogs, parrot, and tortoise.
Education and Work Experience:
Josh earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Brigham Young University and completed a master’s degree in clinical social work at Michigan State University. Josh has worked in a variety of settings, including the Marriage and Family Therapy Clinic at Michigan State, two residential treatment programs, and private practice. Josh has extensive experience working with individuals on the autism spectrum and with learning difficulties.
Therapy Approach:
Josh likes to use a relational approach in his therapy and believes in creating a strong relationship with his clients. He has found that many individuals struggle greatly in their relationship with themselves and that this impacts their relationships with others. Josh works with individuals to see themselves in a more compassionate light and to better their relationships with the people around them. Josh wants to help his clients to face their struggles with confidence and not to beat themselves up about their imperfections. Josh has training in EMDR and DBT and uses these modalities when appropriate.
